Vaingloriously Not in the Same Vein

the difference between white identity and people of color identity is that white people have had the ability to choose to express various sub-labels of their personality and self.  Their identity, as seen by the world, is wholly crafted on what they wish to present or not. Identity in terms of sexuality, religion, gender presentation, even the less serious things like clothing styles and tattoos etc.

All of that is a choice.

Other than certain types of very visible disabilities, white people have utmost control over how the world sees them.

And even then, the combination of being a person of color AND visibly disabled will always be more unpleasant than a white person equivalent.

Why? because white people don’t have the rest of this instantaneous judgmental bullshit happening.

People of color have no such choice.

People of color are instantly labelled.

People of color did not choose to be categorized or identified with certain characteristics.

But it happens.

it happens on a constant basis.

it happens because when you walk in to the room as a person of color, people have already started making judgments, based on the color of your skin.

You can’t change that.

Hell, for some People of Color with non-western names, you get profiled the minute you write your name down.

So yes, white people, when you say “oh but I’m gay” or “oh but I’m trans” or “oh but I have this thing about me that makes me part of an oppressed group”

Bear in mind

There are people of color who have your problems

And also the problem of being not white.

There is always another obstacle there.

Always.
