Tough As Ovaries

decolonizeyourmind:

Over the past few days I discovered that my dad’s girlfriend is a delusional white Identifying apologist. It’s not that I’m surprised but, come on! REALLY? She got mad at me for saying that I identify only with my Mexican side, and do not mention when I meet new people that I am half white. If I think I remember… she said, ” Theres SO much you’re missing out on if you deny being white! You would be so much more interesting to people if you embrace both your sides!!!”

Ok let me just say.

Only recently have I recovered from having a oreo/coconut complex. I used to feverishly deny my being Mexican and hated having my brown skin. To me being Mexican meant I was different, ugly even, and this is due to the surroundings I grew up with. I was raised in a 99% white school from kindergarten to to 10th grade, all my friends were white, and my grandma used to scold me during summer for going to the pool because it made me “Darker.”

Only recently have I come out of this stupor, this mindset that was killing me inside

Only recently have I come to cherish my heritage, and the color of my skin.

Only recently have I realized this haze that is brainwashing little brown girls out there who think they’re ugly for being different, and the sytem of oppression that still exists to this day.

So yes I am Mexican, and no I don’t identify with this “white” side of me

This is why my blog is called ” Decolonize your mind ” Because it’s the process in which I am going through right now after so long being a instrument of white supremacy.

And if this bothers you in some way, and you think I should embrace my ” white heritage” you can kindly fuck off.

WTF does “embrace your white heritage” even mean? Like, embrace the oppression that white people exert over POC? What exactly is “white heritage”? Jesus Christ.
